Community rallies after school’s Christmas Fayre takings stolen

A JUSTGIVING page has been set up to replace stolen takings from a Christmas Fayre taking place at St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School.

The theft occurred on Sunday December 3, and it is estimated approximately £400 was stolen.

Writing on the JustGiving page, organiser Helen Lennon said: “We cannot express strongly enough the hurt and upset this theft has caused, knowing that someone has entered our lovely school building and welcoming community and stolen money intended for the good of our children.

“We have been touched by the united spirit of our school community and the kind offers of help we have received to recover the value of this loss so we can continue to provide the very best at our school for our children.

“The organisers of this event worked extremely hard in their own time to make sure this was a successful and happy day for the school and all the children and families who were attending. We are all devastated that someone could do this to us.”

After being shared many times on Facebook and social media, the JustGiving appeal raised £500 within a week.

Donors left messages of support on the JustGiving page. One wrote: “So sad that this has happened to our lovely school, but heartwarming to see everyone pulling together in the community.” Another said: “A horrendous act of selfishness against children but a lovely community coming together & helping each other.”
