MEMBERS of the public interested in helping more people get active in Warrington are invited to a special debate later this month.

Partners who make up Active Warrington, including Warrington Borough Council and LiveWire, are inviting people to take part in a debate on Tuesday, January 31, which will share information about the wide ranging benefits of physical activity and raise awareness of a new strategy and funding opportunities.

Anyone interested in helping us to develop Warrington’s approach to getting people more active CLICK HERE to register.

Most people know that being active is good for you, but how many realise that moving around just a little bit more, can:

· Improve our health and reduce our risk of getting ill

· Reduce stress, improve sleep and increase our sense of wellbeing

· Help our concentration and increase productivity and achievement at work or in our studies

· Give us more energy to do the things we enjoy

· Improve children’s school days, academic achievement and enjoyment of holidays

The new Active Warrington strategy aims to ensure that as many people in the borough as possible are able to be more active, more often and reap the benefits that physical activity brings for themselves, their families and their communities.

The event will:
· Provide information about the new Active Warrington approach, including a focus on supporting inactive people to become more active

· Offer you plenty of opportunity to share your views, knowledge and ideas on the best way to get your local community involved

· Provide some practical information about funding opportunities and the support available locally to help you or your club/group to access them

Partners supporting the event include the University of Chester and the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation.

Cllr Tony Higgins, executive board member for culture, leisure and community, said: “This event is open to everyone in Warrington and is an opportunity for you to find out more about the many benefits of physical activity, contribute your views, knowledge and experience and get involved in making Warrington a more active place. We look forward to welcoming you.”

Kirstie Simpson, Head of Sport and Community Engagement at the University of Chester, said: “Being active is important for feeling good, as well as looking great. Research tells us that positive communication and motivation are key to supporting those who want to change their behaviour to become active, but just don’t know how to go about it.

“Through our sport and physical activity degree programmes at the Warrington Campus, we develop competent professionals to work in this field.”

Neil Kelly, Foundation Director at Warrington Wolves, said: “We are huge champions of physical activity, it’s the foundation of our work and contributes to the happiness and wellbeing of our community.”

The event will be held on Tuesday 31 January 2017, 5.30pm – 9pm, at The Gateway, 85-101 Sankey Street, Warrington. A buffet will be provided.
