VIDEO: ST Elphin’s Parish Church provided an impressive back drop for Warrington Collegiate’s annual Higher Education Awards.
The event saw former Chair of Governors of 27-years Colin Daniels become a Fellow of the college, which Principal Nichola Newton said had enjoyed its best ever year on a “journey of rapid improvement towards becoming a college of excellence.”
She said the success rate of students had been above the national average, with 95 per cent of students achieving their goals.
She described Mr Daniels as a “remarkable public servant” who had led the college through challenging times and provided her tremendous support as she thanked him for giving the opportunity of “my best ever job!”
Mr Daniels said he had achieved his two main goals during his tenure – a new college building and a university campus.
Guest speaker was Warrington Wolves’ Chief Executive Roger Draper who congratulated students on their success.
He talked about the “amazing journey” he had been on working in sport, meeting Olympic athletes and world cup winners as he outlined the five key points for success.
- To have a clear vision and a big dream.
- Excel in planning
- Unrelenting focus
- Seize your opportunity
- World class execution.
He added: “My careers adviser laughed at me when I said I wanted a career in sport. I went on to be the youngest chief executive in sport. Also never be afraid to fail. Andy Murray lost his first six major finals and there was talk he would never win!”
