WARRINGTON Town ‘s bid to defend the League Cup they won last season has been rained off at Ramsbottom for a second consecutive week.

A waterlogged pitch means the game has been postponed again – and it is hoped it will be third time lucky next Tuesday, November 24.

Town won the trophy at Stockport’s Edgeley Park at the end of last season following a penalty shoot-out victory over Farsley.

That came in a season remembered for a run in the FA Cup, but it’s in the FA Trophy that Shaun Reid’s side have made most progress this season, Saturday’s 3-0 win over Basford United putting them in the third qualifying round.

Warrington, who have only lost three games in all competitions this season, have not conceded a goal in four games since losing to Burscough last month.

FA Cup hero, Skipper Craig Robinson (pictured) had been hoping for a return to action after losing his place through injury and being on the bench the past few weeks.

Warrington host Glossop in a “top of the table” league clash on Saturday,, kick off 3pm  before the FA Trophy third qualifying round match against National League North title chasers AFC Fylde at Cantilever Park on Saturday week.
