Little Alfie will remember lost loved ones at Lantern Walk

A THREE-year-old Warrington boy will remember lost loved ones when he takes part in this year’s annual Lantern Walk organised by St Rocco’s Hospice.

For little Alfie, taking part in this year’s Lantern Walk will be an opportunity to dress up as a skeleton with his friends, with the added benefit of raising funds for the Hospice that cared for his ‘aunty Jaq’.

Jacqueline Brophy, mother of Alfie’s stepfather Troy, passed away at St. Rocco’s in September last year, following a brave fight with lung cancer.

Alfie will be joined on October 25 by other young members of the family, making their way around the one mile route at Orford Park as dusk falls. Mum Charlotte Cookson and Troy will be proudly by their side.

Troy said: “Mum always said such lovely things about the Hospice. She lived life to the full and sometimes you forgot she was even ill. She had her own business and worked right up to two weeks before she died. She was so strong willed. Mum loved champagne and glamour, but was equally as happy with a can of Strongbow watching the rugby. She was always the life and soul of a party.”

Three months ago William Sheen, Troy’s grandad, passed away so Alfie will be walking in memory of ‘Aunty Jacq and Grandad Bill’. It is his second experience of the event, having toddled his way round last year just a few weeks after Jacqueline passed away.

Mum Charlotte added: “It was so emotional and magical last year. It’s a great event to get the kids involved in and Alfie is really looking forward to the walk.”

Places are still available, but are selling fast. Please visit www.stroccos.org.uk to register.
