PRIME Minister David Cameron was in Warrington this morning – visiting the town’s only Free School, King’s Leadership Academy at Woolston
Mr Cameron, accompanied by Warrington South MP David Mowat and Warrington North Conservative Parliamentary candidate Richard Short, was full of praise for the school, which is currently situated in the former Bruche Primary School but will soon move into a new state-of-the art building currently being built.
King’s – which is three times over-subscribed – is right next to the former Woolston High School which had to be closed some years ago because of a shortage of pupils in the area.
The Prime Minister said King’s was an outstanding success story.
He wanted to see more Free Schools opening all over the country – schools which were independent of the local education authority and could control their own destiny.
Mr Cameron chatted with teachers and pupils from the school before moving on to Salford to prepare for tonight’s television programme featuring the seven main party leaders, which is being broadcast from Media City.
