THE charity that came up with the slogan “A dog is for life, not just for Christmas,” is being backed by Warrington North MP Helen Jones.
She is supporting this year’s Christmas campaign organised by the Dog’s Trust, which highlights issues surrounding the online sale of pets and animals.
The MP (pictured)said: “The ease and popularity of the Internet means that the impulse buying of pets has become an appealing option. People are able to purchase an animal through the quick click of a button.
“The lure of a quick sale can also attract unscrupulous breeders to websites. These problems can become especially pertinent during the Christmas period, with many animals bought as gifts only to be abandoned or sold again in January.”
The charity is urging people to think carefully before they commit to buying an animal as a pet this Christmas.
