Showers fail to dampen spirits as Extreme Mountain Bike Show takes centre stage at VPX Warrington

SHOWERS failed to dampen spirits as families and young people turned out at Victoria Park for the latest VPX Warrington event, with the Extreme Mountain Bike Show taking centre stage.

The free community event, organised by We Are Warrington and Warrington Youth Zone, was the third of four VPX events taking place across Warrington during the summer school holidays.
Despite the early morning showers, there was plenty of activity throughout the day, with children and families taking part in a wide range of free activities and entertainment.
One of the highlights was the spectacular Extreme Mountain Bike Show, with skilled riders performing impressive jumps, tricks and stunts to the delight of the crowds.
The event also featured a range of cycling activities, including BMX and scooter skills sessions, bike repairs, maintenance advice and opportunities for youngsters to develop their riding skills.
VPX has become an established part of Warrington’s summer holiday programme, with its origins going back to an initiative started by former Cheshire Police PCSO Tony Spruce and his colleague Tom, aimed at providing young people with something positive, free and fun to do during the school holidays.
Tony’s involvement helped establish VPX as a community-focused event bringing together the police, youth organisations, local businesses and activity providers.
The event returned following the Covid pandemic and has continued to grow, with Warrington Youth Zone playing a key role in organising the programme.
This year’s programme consists of four free events, with the Victoria Park gathering followed by the final event at Warrington Youth Zone on Wednesday, August 26.
The aim remains the same – to give children and families the chance to enjoy a fun-filled day without the cost often associated with school holiday activities.
And despite the August showers, the turnout at Victoria Park showed that a bit of rain wasn’t going to stop Warrington families from making the most of VPX.
