WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Pubs, visited the Hawthorne Pub in Orford recently, where she met with Bobby Sethi from Unity Social and staff.
The Hawthorne, located on Orford Lane, dates back to 1872. It underwent a refurbishment last year with a revamped beer garden and dart boards.
Ms Nichols spoke with Bobby and staff about the challenges that the sector is currently facing and discussed the work that the government is doing to support the industry.
The MP for Warrington North said: “I am delighted to visit the Hawthorne Pub in Orford. It is at the heart of the local community and is a place where friendships are forged, celebrations are held and local people can come together. The Hawthorne underwent an extensive refurbishment just last year, so it is great that the pub is attracting its regulars as well as new customers. The new beer garden is perfect now that the warmer weather is on its way!’’
“Pubs make an enormous contribution to our economy and society. They are an important part of our culture and heritage, and a crucial source of local employment. I recognise the significant challenges they have faced in recent years.’’
“Unity Social, the group that owns the pub, is a fantastic organisation that understands the important role that pubs play in our community. Under their management, the Hawthorne will continue to be at the heart of the community, and the work they have been doing to tackle loneliness and isolation by bringing people together is incredible to see. It was great to hear about them hosting fundraisers, sponsoring local causes, and supporting young people with rewarding career opportunities.”
