Residents across Cheshire and Warrington are set to benefit from government funding to help them keep warm, with support available for those who need it most.
The support comes from the Warm Homes: Local Grant, a government-funded scheme provided by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This funding will be used to improve the energy efficiency of homes across the sub‑region.
The Warm Homes Local Grant funding can support a range of energy saving improvements, which may include insulation and other measures designed to improve a home’s energy performance. Support is targeted at households in the sub-region’s least energy-efficient privately-owned homes that may be most vulnerable to rising energy costs and the effects of cold weather.
The scheme is being led by Cheshire East Council in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester and Warrington Borough Councils.
The Warm Homes: Local Grant is part of national efforts to tackle fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of housing, while supporting residents to remain safe and well in their own homes.
Cllr John Kerr-Brown, cabinet member for housing services, said: “We’re committed to helping residents stay warm, safe and healthy in their homes, especially during the colder months. This funding means we can support those living in some of the least energy‑efficient properties to benefit from improvements that will cut heat loss, lower energy bills and reduce carbon emissions and make a real difference in people’s homes.”
Cllr Tony Higgins, cabinet member for climate change, sustainability and the environment, said: “Improving the energy efficiency of our homes is one of the most effective ways to cut carbon emissions and lessen our impact on the environment, while also helping residents save money on their energy bills. This funding will enable people living in some of the least efficient homes to benefit from practical improvements that reduce heat loss and lower running costs.”
