Firefighters called out to tackle fire involving industrial waste bin

FIREFIGHTERS from Stockton Heath were called out to deal with a fire involving an industrial waste bin in the village.

At 16:58 on Monday afternoon, one crew attnded the incident on London Road involving an industrial hydraulic compressor bin shared by several commercial premises.
The electrics were isolated, and one firefighter wearing a breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to tackle the fire which was causing a lot of smoke.
Firefighters worked with site staff to understand the bin’s operation and make a plan, as crews were only able to remove a small amount of waste by hand.
A skip company attended to assist and lifted the bin, allowing the remaining contents to be emptied onto the ground.
Firefighters fully extinguished the waste and checked for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.
An incident handover form was completed and left with the bin company.
In another incdeint on Monday evening at 19:32 one crew from Birchwood attended reports of a bin fire Ramsay Close.
Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish a fire involving a wheelie bin. The fire is believed to have been caused by hot materials being disposed of before they had fully cooled.
