FRIENDSHIP group St Helens and Warrington Oddfellows is inviting newcomers to events in Warrington to find out what membership is all about.
Upcoming activities include a catch up at Barley Mow, Golden Square on Monday, February 9 at 10.30am and later in the month a coffee morning at Rhode Island (upstairs in the Latte Lounge) at Golden Square on Tuesday February 24 at 10.30am.
Part of the national Oddfellows friendly society, St Helens and Warrington Oddfellows runs a regular programme of social activities across the area, designed to bring people together and encourage new interests. Events range from relaxed coffee mornings and lunches to games afternoons and day trips, with no expectation to attend every event.
Nicola Daffern, the branch’s social organiser, says the group, which has around 300 local members, offers something many people don’t realise they’re missing.
“Home is a feeling, and for many of our members, St Helens and Warrington Oddfellows has become a real home away from home,” said Nicola. “It’s about knowing there’s a friendly face waiting for you and a place where you can feel at ease from the moment you arrive.”
She added that organised friendship groups can be especially important as people move through different stages of life, providing routine, reassurance and a sense of belonging.
As well as social events, members can access care and welfare support, a travel club, volunteering opportunities and fundraising activities. The Oddfellows also hosts around 60 free online events each month, open to everyone. Membership starts from as low as £25.
