FIVE fire crews and other emergency services were involved in the rescue of a person trapped in mud on the banks of the River Mersey at Warrington.
Crews from Stockton Heath, Warrington, Lymm, Knutsford and Chester were joined by the aerial ladder platform from Lymm and the boat rescue unit from Warrington during the incident off Forrest Way on Thursday afternoon, shortly before 2 pm.
Firefighters rescued a person who had become stuck in mud on an embankment near the water. The casualty was conscious and communicating with crews. Swift-water rescue teams used a rescue sledge and later deployed a boat to reach them safely.
Crews kept the casualty warm with a thermal blanket before they were taken to hospital. Police were also in attendance, and the road was closed during the rescue.
