WARRINGTON has been awarded 10 Green Flags for its parks and green spaces – including three new ones.
They are among a record breaking 1,424 sites across the country to receive the awards.
The three new awards go to Fox Covert Cemetery, Hollinfare Cemetery and Bewsey Park.
Other places which retain Green Flags awarded previously are Walton Gardens, Lymm Dam, Alexandra Park, Risley Moss, St Peters Park, Walton Crematorium and Burtonwood Cemetery.
The awards recognise well-managed, high-quality green spaces important for health and leisure activities.
Flags will be raised at events to celebrate Love Parks Week, which starts on Saturday.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the borough council’s executive member for leisure, community and culture said: “These awards recognise the hard work and dedication of our parks officers and rangers and the friends groups who work tirelessly all year round to ensure our parks and green spaces are clean, safe and welcoming for all.”
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award scheme manager, said: “We are thrilled to announce yet another record-breaking year for Green Flag Award parks and green spaces.
“A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for the achievements of all those who’s hard work and dedication has helped to create these fantastic places for all to enjoy.
“I must also thank all this year’s 800+ volunteer judges for their magnificent efforts in assessing an astounding number of applications.”
