PLANS for an artificial grass sports pitch, replacement sports pavilion and relocation of a natural grass pitch in Victoria Park, Warrington have been submitted to borough planners.
The scheme has been put forward by Barratts and David Wilson Homes.
Although the applicants admit the proposal will have an impact on the Grade 2 Listed Old Warps – a former mansion now used as a restaurant – they say the impact will only be minor – “the proposed development will have an effect on the significance of the Grade II listed The Old Warps that is in the lower range.”
The development will be subject to a proposed community use agreement between the borough council, Warrington Wolves Community Foundation, Latchford Giants amateur Rugby League Club, the Rugby Football League and the Football Foundation in relation to community use of the artificial sports pitch and the new changing facilities.

They already have an artificial pitch there at Victoria Park, why would you not do something like this at Crosfields to spread the availability across the town. Seem a very stupid move when crosfiels and the Sankey area are crying out for something like this.
think because this pitch always waterlogged or under water..so would make a nice duck pond in winter lol
The high water table of Victoria Park is a massive issue. There is a long list of places that could argue for such facilities across Warrington but for some strange reason the four developers building new homes in the Poulton North area in and around the Old campus are not compensating for the loss of sporting facilities. No facilities are to be delivered,it doesn’t appear to please the powers that be.
