WARRINGTON North MP and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Nuclear Energy, Charlotte Nichols, recently visited Sellafield’s offices at Hinton House in Birchwood.

Ms Nichols met with staff to learn more about the important role Warrington plays in supporting Sellafield UK’s clean up mission.
She met with staff and apprentices who are engaged in pushing forward nationally significant projects. From design to engineering and commissioning, the teams of staff working in Birchwood deliver critical infrastructure for Sellafield driving progress in the Nuclear Energy Sector.
Chris Miles from Sellafield’s major projects client team highlighted some of the projects being delivered through long-term partnerships.
Mr Miles said “There are hundreds of people in Warrington helping to deliver projects that support the Sellafield mission. It was fantastic to show Charlotte the benefits of collaboration with our supply chain partners and the positive impact this work has had locally and nationally.”
Ms Nichols met with design apprentices and viewed footage of nationally important decommissioning work at legacy facilities which supports Sellafield’s UK clean up mission.

Sellafield Ltd was a pioneer in the development of the nuclear industry in the UK. Now, as global experts in the safeguarding of special nuclear materials, their priority is the safe and secure stewardship of our country’s stores of special nuclear materials.
As their mission to clean up their legacy buildings progresses, Sellafield are building modern waste retrieval, processing and storage facilities to look after the resulting nuclear fuel and waste.
Sellafield Ltd Chief Executive Euan Hutton said “It was a pleasure to host Charlotte, who is a strong advocate for the vital work being carried out in Warrington. We were able to highlight some of the exciting projects and career paths available to our apprentices, and we look forward to sharing further progress on our mission to make the UK a safer place for future generations.”
Ms Nichols said “The work being done in Warrington is very impressive. Our town provides the skill and technical expertise that drives Sellafield’s UK clean up mission and I was incredibly impressed with the staff and apprentices I met that are helping to deliver on that mission. I am a long standing supporter of the Nuclear Industry in Warrington and will continue to support the investment in training and skills we need to keep these high skilled jobs secure in our town.”
