PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are being asked to approve construction of a one and-a-half storey dwelling on the site of outbuildings used as an art studio.
Officers are recommending the scheme, on land at the rear of Hob Hey Lane, Culcheth, be approved despite an over-supply of housing land in the borough.
They say the studio us a target for crime and despite strong access gates, new fencing and floodlighting being provided, continues to be regularly broken into.
A report to be considered by the borough council’s planning committee that outline planning consent was given for the scheme in January 2004.
But the consent expired and in 2007 an application to renew it was refused because of the over-supply of housing land.
The applicant lost an appeal, although the inspector acknowledged crime was an issue.
Officers are now recommending the scheme be approved because it was previously considered acceptable and remove the crime problem.
One neighbour has objected on the grounds the scheme will involve a loss of privacy and claims part of the site is not in the ownership of the applicant.
Vehicle access to the site will be from Radcliffe Avenue.
