A YOUNG Warrington couple are among the first people to buy a new home thanks to the local “Lend a Hand” scheme.
Emma Copley and boyfriend Daniel Murrell, both aged 25, have now picked up their keys and moved into their home.
“We have been trying to get on the property ladder for a few years but we have really struggled to build up a good deposit,” said Emma.
After hearing about the scheme, organised by Warrington Borough Council and Lloyds TSB, Emma thought it would be good for her and Daniel – although she was concerned there might be a catch.
She said: “I went into my local branch the next day to find out more and was really surprised to be told that we would qualify.
“We now finally have our own place, in our dream location, which wouldn’t have been possible if we hadn’t had this support.”
Local “Lend a Hand” which launched in branches of Lloyds TSB in August, lets first time buyers buy a home with a minimum deposit of just five per cent of the purchase price.
Warrington council was one of the first local authorities in the country to make the scheme available.
Cllr David Keane, executive member for environment and public protection, said: “It is great news that, after a few months, we are already seeing first time buyers in Warrington get the keys to their first home.
“These are the first steps to helping up to 300 homebuyers in the area, and this will boost the local housing market as a whole.”
