MORE than 60 people kayaked and canoed along the Bridgewater Canal at Stockton Heath in an action packed fundraising day for charity
.
Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP) hosted a Charity Kayak Challenge at Thorn Marine, and raised more than £2,500 for Disability Awareness Day.
Crowds gathered at The London Bridge pub, which was used as a base to register for the event. A barbecue was provided for participants and guests to enjoy.
WDP’s fully accessible narrow boat, the Wizard, was moored alongside offering everyone the chance to get on board and explore the delights of canal cruising.
Event organiser Val Caldwell said: “I was thrilled to see so many people of all ages and abilities having so much fun on the canal whilst raising funds for our charity.”
Wheelchair user Colin Whitfield said: “I hadn’t kayaked for 15 years and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of getting back on the water. I can’t wait to do it again.”
The event is one of a number being organised by the charity encouraging people to “go the extra mile” to help cover a funding shortfall for this year’s 20th anniversary of Disability Awareness Day at Walton Gardens on Sunday July 10.
