YOUNGSTERS from Warrington schools are getting to grips with technology as they prepare for the future.
One such school is Woolston Primary, where mini PCs, flip cameras and Nintendo DS consoles are regularly used in the classroom.
Year 5 and 6 pupils use mini PCs to access 24-hour help, and to allow them to share their skills with their peers. Year 2 pupils will soon get the chance to use Nintendo DS consoles for activities aimed at developing mental maths and communications skills.
Head teacher Judith Elshaw said: “While this technology is generally associated with recreational use, we are harnessing its potential to enhance learning, and to support and encourage communication, cooperation and collaboration.”
To highlight this type of work and other innovative ways of transforming learning, the borough council is organising an event at William Beamont High School on June 23. Teachers and governors from across the borough will be invited to share ideas and learn from what other schools are doing.
