Travellers encampment arrives at Peel Hall Park

SHORTLY after travellers vacated Birchwood Forest Park a travellers encampment has arrived on the car park at Peel Hall Park.

The encampment of seven caravans arrived on the Warrington Borough Council owned land yesterday, shortly after an encampment of six vehicles vacated Birchwood Forest Park.

The group is to be allowed to stay short term due to a welfare issue.

It’s the latest in a number of traveller issues in the town.

Former Mayor and ex-local councillor Geoff Settle said: “I was on the number 25 bus this morning heading to town when I spotted the latest encampment of travellers on the car park of Peel Hall Park opposite St Bridget’s Catholic Primary School.

“I remember working hard, as the local councillor, with the PCSOs to persuade and encourage parents to use the car park and make their way across Capesthorne Road using the crossing to get to the school gates safely. I hope things are resolved before the children return after their Easter break.

“The park is also a place that the late Bob Haskew-Jones successfully campaigned to be designated as a Queen Elizabeth II Field as part of the legacy for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.”
