MUSICIANS and singers from around the country are to meet to perform an evening of folk-music at Warrington’s Grappenhall Ex-Servicemen’s Club – as part of the club’s centenary celebrations.
The event will take place on Thursday, August 26 at 7pm and all the performers will have long associations with Warrington’s legendary Minor Birds Folk Group who ran a successful folk club for many years.
Grappenhall Ex-Servicemen’s Club was founded in in 1921 by local men who had returned from the First World War.
The concert will be the first event that forms part of a long weekend of celebration to commemorate the club’s centenary year.

The Minor Birds Folk Group has a distinguished history itself and many famous artists appeared with them – including Paul Simon, Barbara Dixon, Billy Connolly, Gerry Rafferty and Mike Harding The Minor Birds folk group played host to the stars.
It was in 1962 that the Minor Birds first performed, at the Golden Lion pub on Knutsford Road. It was part of the folk revival that swept Britain at that time.
Original members were twins Norman and Jack Froggatt, Ken Wilson, Dave Head and Carol Melia.
