COVID-19 hospital inpatient numbers rise again as 76 new cases confirmed in Warrington

COVID-19 related inpatient numbers at Warrington & Halton Hospitals have risen again, while 76 new cases have been reported in the town, with infection rates still more than double the national average.

Hospital COVID-19 positive inpatients numbers have increased from 12-15 in the past 24 hours, including two in intensive care.
The 76 (49) new COVID-19 cases take the total number of confirmed cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic to 18,932 (18,856).
Cases in Warrington for the last seven days have risen again, with 403 (387) – 191.9 (184.3) per 100,000 population over a seven-day period– more than twice the national rate of 93.7 (89.3) per 100,000, which also continues to rise.



Meanwhile new Data from ONS reports that in England, it is estimated that over 8 in 10 adults, or 86.6% of the adult population, would have tested positive for antibodies against coronavirus on a blood test in the
week beginning 7 June, suggesting they had the infection in the past or have been vaccinated.
New analysis by PHE also shows for the first time that 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective against hospitalisation from the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant.
The analysis suggests: the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is 96% effective against hospitalisation after 2 doses and the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is 92% effective against hospitalisation after 2 doses.

The daily number of lab-confirmed UK cases was 11,625 (10,633), taking the total number to 4,651,988 (4,640,507).
Across the country, there are 1,378 (1,316) patients currently in hospital and 227 (223) on ventilation.
