COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise in Warrington with 53 new cases as PM hints at delaying lifting restrictions

ANOTHER 53 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Warrington in the latest data from Public Health England, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson hinted he would delay easing lockdown restrictions.

The 53 (65) new COVID-19 cases take the total number of confirmed cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic to 18,359 (18,306). No new hospital data will be available until at least Monday afternoon but as of yesterday there was just one covid positive inpatient.



Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he is less optimistic about the easing of lockdown restrictions hinting he will delay the 21 June reopening.
Speaking to Sky News at the G7 summit in Cornwall, said he was prepared to be “cautious” over the fourth and final stage in his roadmap for lifting COVID measures.
Although he previously hoped to remove all remaining legal restrictions on social contact on 21 June, it has been suggested he could now delay step four of his roadmap by as much as a month.
The prime minister said it was “clear” the Delta variant of COVID, first discovered in India, was “more transmissible” with COVID-19 cases and the number of people in hospital increasing in the UK.
Cases in Warrington for the last seven days continue to rise, with 204 (167) – 97.1 (79.5) per 100,000 population over a seven-day period– which is now well above the national rate of 61.1 (55.2) per 100,000, which also continues to rise.
Warrington & Halton Hospitals has reintroduced its daily reporting of figures Monday-Friday, excluding Bank Holidays.

There have been no hospital deaths since April.

The total number of deaths in Warrington within 28 days of a positive test reported by Public Health England is currently 486 (486) 231.4 per 100,000 population compared to the national rate of 191.5

Across the UK the daily number of COVID-19 associated UK deaths reported on Saturday, June 12th 2021 was 12 (17), taking the total number of deaths to 127,896 (127,884).
