WORK is progressing well on a project to tackle longstanding flooding incidents in the Orford and Longford areas of Warrington
The project involves provision of a new Dallam pumping station – and work is due to be completed early in February.
An existing drainage system outfall into Dallam Brook is being demolished and a new pumping station will be built. Cost of the project is £477,000 project – and worked started last July.
Three new pumps are being installed to assist with the discharge of water from the drainage system into Dallam Brook.
Works are entering their final stages, with the outfall chamber now demolished, and construction of the new pump station chamber and fit out of internal pipework under way.
The pumps have also been manufactured and are ready for installation early in the New Year.
Cllr Hans Mundry, Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for highways, transportation and public realm, said “The new pumping station will make a huge difference to Orford and Longford residents – particularly those who live in the Densham Avenue, Gough Avenue and Northway areas, who have faced flooding issues for many years.
“We’ve worked closely with local people, United Utilities and the Environment Agency to develop these plans, and I’m delighted that work on the project is progressing so well. It’s a great example of how we can work with partners to minimise the risk of flooding in our town.”
Funding for the project is being provided by Warrington Borough Council (£100,000), United Utilities (£177,000) and the Environment Agency (£200,000).
