MOTORISTS in Poulton South face six weeks of daytime road restrictions as Warrington Borough Council prepares to carry out resurfacing works across a number of residential streets.
The council has announced plans for temporary road closures and clearways covering Connaught Avenue, Grosvenor Avenue, Jackson Avenue and Princess Avenue, together with part of Larkfield Avenue.
The restrictions are expected to come into effect from Monday, November 2, 2026, and remain in place for up to six weeks.
They will operate between 8.30am and 5.30pm, as and when signs are put in place at the locations.
The council says the restrictions are required to allow road or footway surfacing works to be carried out safely.
The temporary order covers the entire lengths of:
* Connaught Avenue
* Grosvenor Avenue
* Jackson Avenue
* Princess Avenue
It will also affect part of Larkfield Avenue, from its junction with Whitfield Avenue to the end of the road beyond the junction with Wilkinson Avenue.
Access through the affected areas will be controlled by the contractor carrying out the works.
Diversion routes
Drivers affected by the restrictions will be directed around the works using alternative routes.
For Larkfield Avenue, the diversion will run via Manchester Road, Jackson Avenue and Wilkinson Avenue.
Traffic unable to use Connaught Avenue will be directed via King Edward Street, Manchester Road and Grosvenor Avenue.
For Grosvenor Avenue, the alternative route will use Connaught Avenue, Queens Avenue and Manchester Road.
The Jackson Avenue diversion will run via Manchester Road, Larkfield Avenue and Wilkinson Avenue.
Drivers affected by the closure of Princess Avenue will be directed via Paddington Bank, Kingsway North and Bennett Avenue.
The council says the restrictions will only operate as and when signed on site, meaning the exact timing and extent of individual closures may vary as the resurfacing programme progresses.
The temporary traffic order is being made under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Residents and motorists are being advised to allow extra time for journeys when the works are taking place.
The programme is currently scheduled to begin on November 2 and continue for up to six weeks.
