UPDATED: A 58-year-old man who was seriously injured in a flat fire in Birchwood, Warrington, earlier this week, has sadly died.
At around 10.10am on, Tuesday 22 September, emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a flat on Teal Grove, Birchwood.
On arrival one casualty, a 58-year-old man was located in the property. The man was rescued from the address by firefighters before being taken to Whiston Hospital.
Sadly, despite the nest efforts of all those involved, he has since passed away.
Enquires into the cause of the fire remain ongoing, although at this time there is not believed to be any third-party involvement.
