A Warrington primary school pupil’s empathy for children who lose their hair during hospital treatment has been recognised with a special kindness award.
Evelyn Street Primary Academy and Nursery Year 5 pupil Keeva Lee donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes natural wigs for children experiencing hair loss during medical treatments.
That selfless act caught the attention of Jacqueline Breeze, Pastoral Mentor and Mental Health First Aider, and Class 5 Teacher Alison Connolly. They nominated her for the Eileen K Halligan Kindness Award 2026 and last week the youngster learned she had won the accolade.
Alison Connolly said: “Understanding the profound impact that hair loss can have on children undergoing medical treatment, Keeva chose to transform a personal sacrifice into a gift of confidence and hope for a peer in need.
“This act was not merely about a haircut; it was a quiet, powerful display of empathy and a genuine desire to support others during their most difficult moments.”
Jacqueline Breeze added: “By providing the raw material for a beautiful wig, Keeva has offered another child more than just hair – she has offered them the knowledge that a stranger truly cares about their wellbeing. Her maturity and generosity of spirit serve as a beautiful example of kindness in action.”
The Eileen K Halligan Annual Kindness award is named in honour of the founder member and CEO of Central Credit Union (CCU), a Merseyside-based not-for-profit financial co-operative committed to improving financial health and wellbeing within local communities.
The award, which comes with a £500 prize, recognises primary-age children who spread unconditional, unwavering and selfless kindness among their community.
Another pupil within the Warrington Primary Academy Trust (WPAT) family was also recognised in the awards.
Isabelle Oxtoby, a Year 2 pupil at Callands Primary Academy in Warrington, received a runner-up certificate and a £50 voucher for the Eileen K Resilience Award, which celebrates a young person aged 7–16 who show perseverance, adaptability and positivity when faced with life’s challenges. Isabelle was nominated for the courage and resilience she had shown since her triplet siblings were born prematurely.
Year 2 teacher Jen Westwood said: “When her triplet siblings were born prematurely, they spent their first three months in hospital. During that time, Isabelle not only had to adapt to the arrival of three new babies, but also to the worry and uncertainty that came with them being poorly.
“Through it all, she has been an absolute superstar. She has taken every challenge in her stride, shown endless patience and understanding, and continues to amaze us every day. We couldn’t be prouder of the wonderful young person she is becoming.”
Julie Jackson, Financial Education Manager, from Central Credit Union said, “We believe these awards matter because they shine a spotlight on what is good in our community, in the hope of inspiring others to act in the same way, and we were delighted to recognise Keeva and Isabelle in this way.”
Evelyn Street Primary Academy and Nursery and Callands Primary Academy are part of Warrington Primary Academy Trust (WPAT), a community of nine schools in Warrington, Widnes and Frodsham.
