POLICE are investigating following reports of Urban Explorers breaking into the Woolston Hub, which has been closed since September last year.

A video was recently posted on Tik Tok by one Urban Explorer and shared by the Save Woolston Neighbourhood Hub campaign group.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “We’ve had a number of reports of ‘urban explorers’ breaking into the Woolston Neighbourhood Hub recently.
“While currently closed to the public, this is not an abandoned building – council staff and contractors are still accessing the site.
“‘Urban exploring’ any site can pose a serious risk, and Woolston Hub is no different, with a number of building features that could result in serious injury or worse.
“We’re reviewing CCTV, which has captured recent activity and will be contacting anyone we identify in that. We urge parents, carers, and others to educate their young people about the potential consequences of trying to enter a site like this.”
The Woolston Neighbourhood Hub in Warrington completely closed on September 4, 2025, after routine water testing identified the presence of legionella bacteria. Prior to the full building closure, the facility’s swimming pools and dance studio had already been shut down since July 2025 due to separate structural concerns. Following the initial legionella discovery, subsequent flushing and disinfection efforts failed to clear the bacteria. Combined with an estimated £3 million in structural repair costs, this led Warrington Borough Council to launch a public consultation on the permanent closure of the site.
