Final call as less than half of eligible people get their spring COVID-19 vaccination

WITH less than one week left before the spring COVID-19 vaccination programme ends on Tuesday 30 June, the NHS in Cheshire and Merseyside is urging anyone who hasn’t yet had their vaccination to come forward as soon as possible to top up their protection.

Despite the vaccine being the most effective defence against serious complications and hospitalisation from COVID-19, less than half of the 350,939 eligible people in Cheshire and Merseyside have received their free dose.

Those eligible, include people:
• aged 75 or over
• aged 6 months to 74 years and have a weakened immune system because of a health condition or treatment
• who live in a care home for older adults

Dr Fiona Lemmens, Executive Clinical Director for NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, said: “We know that older people and those who are immunosuppressed may have a reduced ability to fight infections and other diseases, including COVID-19, which is still around.
“Receiving the vaccine reduces the chances of getting seriously unwell. You don’t need to wait until you’re invited, if you are eligible, please come forward to top up your protection against the virus for the coming months.”
Those eligible for the spring COVID-19 vaccine, can book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment online or in the NHS App, or find their nearest walk-in COVID-19 clinic using the NHS walk-in finder.
Some people may be able to get vaccinated at a local service, such as a community pharmacy or GP surgery, or at a care home if they live in a care home.
The Living Well Service, operated on a drop-in basis by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, continues to offer COVID-19 vaccinations at various locations across Cheshire and Merseyside.
The last date for people to get their COVID-19 vaccine is 30 June 2026. Online booking will close on 29 June 2026.
