PLANS for an artificial grass sports pitch – suitable for soccer and rugby – on land at Woolston Playing Fields are to come before Warrington’s development management committee on Thursday, June 18.
The scheme, put forward by David Wilson Homes and the University of Chester, are to mitigate for the loss of playing fields at the university’s former Padgate campus site in Crab Lane which is to be re-developed for housing. .
Woolston Parish Council, which would be responsible for the maintenance of a car park which is part of the scheme has expressed some concerns about the project, as have a number of local residents.
But planning g officers are recommending approval, subject to a number of conditions.
The scheme would result in the loss of a number of grass pitches but the artificial pitch will be able to sustain a greater number of matches than the existing grass pitches. The applicants have agreed to fund maintenance of the artificial pitch for 25 years.
Officers say the principle of the scheme is acceptable as there are no unacceptable impacts on residential or visual amenity, highway safety, ecology or air or land quality
Concerns expressed by the parish council and local residents relate to proposed floodlighting, loss of natural green space, parking problems, increased noise and disturbance, flooding issues and impact on wildlife in the park.
There are also concerns about the possible loss of trees which currently screen the site.

So yet again Poulton North gains an extension to the current building site by including via a sweetener another 440 new builds along with the current 1200 Peel Hall and 50 at Hougton Green and lose out yet again with sports facilities to another ward. There’s something wrong going on under the radar.
