Lymm nursery raises over £2,000 for the DYRK1A UK Community

Children from Kids Planet Lymm have come together for a fundraising day, filled with colour, care and purpose to honour and celebrate the life of a special member of the nursery family.

The day saw children, colleagues and families from the nursery take part in a series of collaborative activities such as a sponsored walk, a bake sale and a raffle in memory of Helen, a former Kids Planet Lymm member who lost her life to DYRK1A in April 2024. Those who participated dressed in bright rainbow colours in support of the DYRK1A community.
The DYRK1A UK Community assists children and families affected by the rare genetic syndrome, helping them to connect with one another and share experiences. So far, the event has raised an amazing £2,140, which will be primarily used to fund annual meet ups to learn more about the condition from professional speakers.
As children at Kids Planet are actively encouraged to learn outside of the classroom, Helen’s Rainbow Day allowed them to gain a greater understanding of kindness, compassion and the importance of supporting those in the wider community. They were able to recognise how coming together for small acts of generosity can make a positive difference to the lives of others.

Faye Hennessey, nursery manager at Kids Planet Lymm has commented on the day, sharing, “We are extremely proud of the team and the children for their participation on the day; we had a fulfilling day, shared memories as we continue to keep Helen’s memory alive and raise awareness for the DYRK1A charity. We would like to thank the community and local businesses for all their support and generous donations too!”
