LATCHFORD Albion Giants suffered a costly 24-14 defeat at Oldham St Annes when a difficult second half proved the difference and dented their promotion challenge.
They started strongly and crossed twice in the opening stages, Fin Crowe diving in at the corner before Logan Lagar barged his way over. Will Maguire adding one conversion.
The rest of the half was an even contest but at half time Latchford held a 0-10 lead.
After the break the hosts quickly reduced the deficit with a converted try before Lagar crossed for his second of the day to keep Latchford in front.
Unfortunately the second half saw injuries to Will Maguire (shoulder) and Mike Lagar (ankle) along with knocks to McKenzie Morris and Riley Cole leaving the visitors limited for options.
Oldham took full advantage of the situation and ran in three converted tries in the last 20 minutes to take the points.
This Saturday sees Albion at home when they host Clock Face Miners A, kick off 2.30pm
