Police investigating suspected arson incident at disused church

POLICE are investigating following a suspected arson incident at a disused church at Cinnamon Brow, Warrington, on Monday afternoon.

At 16:50 two fire engines from Warrington and Birchwood, attended at the former Church of the Resurrection building on Enfield Park Road.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish two small fires inside the disused church. A high-pressure fan was used to help clear the smoke. Police have been notified as it is suspected to have been a deliberate ignition.
Cheshire Police confirmed that no arrests have been made at present.

The Church of the Resurrection and St Bridget, dates from 1988 when the foundation stone was laid on land originally intended for a Roman Catholic church.
Described as unique at the time, the church was “shared” by the Church of England and Roman Catholic churches – closed after 34 years in November 2022.

  1. Unfortunately not being occupied for so long it looks like it is going the same way as the Hawthorn Community Centre and the pub next door went.

    It’s the place we’re my daughter was Christened and one that I was trying to get involved in developing a peace garden at the back but they didn’t buy my idea of planting a peace pole even though I was going to pay for it but that’s another story.
