LATCHFORD avenged last week’s defeat with a dramatic golden point 22-23 victory over Hindley Stags reserves on Friday evening.
The visitors started strongly and opened the scoring in the opening minutes when Kyal Melvin crashed over.
Hindley scored two quick-fire tries to take the lead before the teams then traded tries.
Albion’s scores coming from Will Maguire and Alfie Kennedy to leave the game in the balance at 16-12 at half-time
An early second-half converted Hindey try saw them edge out to a ten-point lead, but Latchford showed great spirit to haul themselves back in the game.
On the hour mark Maguire crossed again and added the subsequent conversion to reduce the deficit to four points.
With time running out, the Giants moved the ball around and found Alfie Kennedy in space, who raced through to score his second try and level the score. Agonisingly, the conversion just drifted wide and at Full-time the sides were locked at 22-22.
With the game being part of the NWML Shield their had to be a winner, so both sides entered golden point. The first period was even, but Albion were the first side to gain field position to put them in scoring range, and up stepped Dave Manfredi (pictured), who coolly slotted over a 25 metre drop goal to seal the victory after an absorbing clash.
This Saturday sees Albion return to league action when they travel to Oldham St Annes A.
