Man charged following fatal collision on the M62

Detectives investigating a fatal collision on the M62 near Warrington have charged a lorry driver in relation to the incident.

Anthony Burns, 63, from Headington Road, Upton, has now been summonsed to appear at Warrington Magistrates on 25 November to face the charges of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
At around 5.31am on Thursday 11 July 2024, police attended a collision between two lorries and a taxi on the westbound carriageway of the M62 between junction 8 and junction 7.
Sadly, the passengers of the taxi, Captain Matt Greenhalgh, 28, and Senior First Officer Jamie Fernandes, 24, who were on their way to work at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, died at the scene. Their families are continuing to be supported by specialist officers.
The taxi driver received serious injuries at the time.
