AN investigation is underway after seven fire crews were involved in containing a blaze in a building on the former Padgate Campus site at Fearnhead, Warrington.
Shortly after 6:30pm on Sunday evening seven crews and the aerial paltform from Lymm were called out to reports of a fire in an unoccupied building on Crab Lane at the former University of Chester campus site.
On arrival, firefighters discovered a fire on the first floor of the building, and began tackling it externally using a hose reel.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus then entered the building and continued firefighting internally with a second hose reel.
The incident was sectorised, with one team focused on firefighting and another looking for signs of fire spread. A ladder was used to access different areas of the building, and a thermal imaging camera to help identify hotspots.
Relief crews were brought in throughout the duration of the incident, and firefighters remained on scene overnight to monitor the property for any remaining hotspots.
Police were also in attendance at this incident, and a fire investigation is now underway.
Firefighters left the scene shortly after 2pm today, Monda.
Cheshire Fire & Rescue have confirmed it was not the main University of Chester campus, and the building was unoccupied at the time of the incident.
