A few light showers didn’t prevent Padgate & Woolston Walking Day from returning to its former glory, with all the local churches and schools taking part together with their accompanying bands and the addition of several community groups.
Huge crowds turned out to cheer them on and hand out the traditional money for youngsters to put in their walking day purses despite the threat of thundery showers.
After almost disappearing from the calendar last year, and having been rescued by local Councillor Sue Emery, months of careful planning and volunteer meetings resulted in a smaller parade in 2024 when some groups dropped out due in part to a lack of volunteers at schools and churches.
Planning for this year’s event started very soon after the 2024 walk, and several planning meetings were held with volunteers, new and old. Huge credit and thanks must go to Cllr Emery and Dee Bonsall, who have been the drivers behind not only returning Padgate & Woolston Walking Day to its previous glory but also gaining more involvement from members of the local community.
