Road closed as firefighters tackle vehicle fire at Appleton Thorn

FIREFIGHTERS were called out to tackle a vehicle fire at Appleton Thorn as villagers attended the nearby Bawming the Thorn village festival.

One crew attended at the scene on Stretton Road outside Appleton Village Hall after a Land Rover vehicle caught fire at around 15.20 on Saturday.
Flames spread to the road surace as fire crew used foam to bring the fire under control.
Firefighters used one set of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the vehicle that was well alight. One casualty was treated by paramedics for burns.
A road closure was put in place as firefighters brought the fire under control.
A few hours earlier, hundreds of villagers had been attending the Bawming the Thorn ceremony before moving on to the nearby school field.
