A by-election is looming on Warrington Borough Council at Bewsey & Whitecross following the resignation of local Cllr. Shireen Mohammed.

Her decision comes after taking up direct employment with the borough council.

Cllr Mohammed issued a brief statement saying: “After careful consideration following my taking up a direct employment role with Warrington Borough Council, I have decided to stand down as an elected member for the Bewsey and Whitecross ward.
“I have enjoyed supporting the members of my local community for the past year and bringing about positive change.
“A by-election will now take place, and details will be confirmed shortly.”

It follows on from a recent by-election at Great Sankey North and Whittle Hall, where the controlling Labour group held off a strong challenge from Reform by just 30 votes.
