THREE fire crews were called out last night to tackle a large grassland fire next to the River Mersey in Warrington.

At 21:39 fire engines from Lymm, Warrington and Penketh attended reports of a fire on Mersey Walk near Westy Park.
An area of grassland that was on fire on the side of a river was attended by firefighters. They used What3Words to locate the area which was down a footpath at the side of the river and involved approximately 100 square metres of grass.
The crews established a water supply from the river to enable them to put the fire out. They used a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire was fully extinguished before leaving and were in attendance for approximately two and a half hours.
No cause has been given.
