Lymm Ladies celebrate promotion to 4th tier of English Hockey

LYMM Ladies first team took on a strong Didsbury Greys team, knowing that a win would seal the title and guarantee promotion to North West Women’s Premier and the 4th tier of the English ladies hockey league.

Right from the off, it was clear that this was going to be a tough, tense and nervy affair – but Lymm settled well, which was welcome relief for the large crowd, who in recent weeks had become accustomed to seeing the ladies start slowly.
No such chance this week with so much at stake, as the team took the game to the Greys, with great tempo and aggression. But unfortunately, the goal that their play deserved didn’t come and the score was 0-0 at the break.

The second half continued in much the same vein and the clock seemed to be running at double speed – but Lymm were now forcing the game and winning many penalty corners. And then with only a quarter of the game remining, a really well worked penalty corner routine, yielded the all-important goal.
At this point the clock started to run in reverse and the remaining 18 minutes seemed like an eternity, not least when the Greys forced 2 late penalty corners of their own – but Lymm held on, to spark scenes of great joy at the final whistle.
This has been a great achievement from a relatively new squad, that have gelled together on and off the pitch – as seen by those celebrations running on well into the night!
