Town centre communications kiosks rejected

PLANNING chiefs have rejected proposals for four communications kiosks in Warrington town centre.

The kiosks in Sankey Street, Winwick Street and Time Square would each have contained a built-in defibrillator, telephone, advertising signage, touch screen and large digital display screen
But planning officers said the kiosks, by virtue of their siting, scale, height, position and illumination would result in harmful and discordant features that would be an unduly prominent and dominant structure.
They would detract from the visual amenity of the area and would introduce a visually incongruous addition and an unacceptable amount of clutter to the street scene and public realm.
In addition, they would be a highly prominent feature that would be detrimental to the public safety of all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.
