THE Ministry of Defence has bestowed its highest status employers’ award on global nuclear engineering company Amentum – which employs more than 1,500 people in Warrington.

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award is for employers that do their utmost to pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to the defence and armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant, a promise by the nation to treat those who serve with fairness and respect.
Amentum, based in Birchwood Park, where it operates 12,000m² of laboratory, test rig and engineering facilities , is the largest private sector complex of its kind in the UK nuclear industry.
It also employs more than 600 people in Cumbria, providing engineering design, safety case, programme and project management and other services for the Sellafield nuclear site and for defence manufacturing in Barrow-in-Furness and 200 people in Knutsford.
Andy White, senior vice president of Amentum Energy and Environment International said : “The military family is very important to Amentum and we are delighted that the MOD recognises the commitment shown by our company and its employees.

“Veterans and reservists bring to their work the skills, character and experience they have developed in the military and aligning our policies closely with the Armed Forces Covenant is a great way to support them and say thank you for their important contribution to our business.”
Amentum employs more than 400 UK military veterans in the defence, energy and cyber security sectors, carrying out work that is vital to national security, including procurement and delivery for MOD Defence Equipment & Support, nuclear safety assurance and infrastructure engineering for the Royal Navy’s submarines, and design and build of new facilities at the Atomic Weapons Establishment.
The company guarantees reservists additional paid time-off for training, provides special support for military spouses and employees who volunteer with the cadet forces, has a tailored programme to enable service leavers to make a smooth transition to civilian employment, and runs an ex-military employee network which organises social, outreach and fundraising activities.
