Within minutes of coming off the bench for his debut, Willem Tomlinson scored an 89th minute winner giving Warrington Rylands all three points as they beat Matlock Town 2-1 at home at The Hive Arena.

Warrington started strongly and their fast, free-flowing football immediately gave them the upper hand as Matlock struggled to maintain the ball long enough to create any chances, whilst the home side were producing plenty.

The breakthrough came after 23 minutes when a repetition of four shots on the opposition goal were never fully cleared and Harrison Hopper presented the home side with the lead, beating Adam Hayton from close range.
Manager Neil Reynolds has put together a squad of players who work well as a team and it would be difficult to name anyone as a Man of the Match. At half-time they went into the changing room well in control.
However, just nine minutes into the second half, responding to the linesman’s flag waving, the referee awarded The Gladiators a free kick outside the penalty area for a ball to hand. Joshua Smith rose the highest to head the ball past Luke Pilling for the unexpected equaliser.
Both sides began pushing for the winner and the referee saw fit to hand out nine yellow cards during the afternoon.
Each team began making changes, bringing fresh players off the bench. New boys Taylor Bowen and Willem Tomlinson immediately threatened the Matlock defence with the latter producing the winning goal with minutes left on the clock.
Warrington Rylands have now gone 10 games unbeaten, with the last defeat coming in the Isuzu FA Trophy against higher league Chorley back in early December, and as a consequence are now sitting in ninth place in the Northern Premier League. Reynolds hopes his boys can make it 11 games when they travel to Prescot Cables on Tuesday 4 February.
