WARRINGTON was hit by snow overnight as an amber weather warning was in place.

Police in Warrington warned: “I know we are stating the obvious but if you do not need to go out today don’t.
The roads are quite dangerous and we have already had multiple accidents reported in the area.
If you have any elderly or vulnerable neighbours please check on them and make sure they are ok
“Most importantly Stay warm and stay safe.”

Meanwhile, Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team issued a don’t travel warning on Facebook on Sunday morning as a result of the poor weather.
It read: “NUMEROUS PEOPLE BEING CAUGHT OUT THIS MORNING: Early update for you all. “We are receiving calls for a number of collisions across the county.
“Please if you can avoid travelling for the time being, that would be a real help! More updates to follow, Sgt Simpson.”
Police closed off Wilderspool Causeway after cars were involved in low-speed collisions in the snow.
Bridge Lane in Appleton was reportedly impassable due to the snow.
And the M56 westbound exit at junction 9 is currently closed off to traffic due to the treacherous driving conditions caused by the snow.

Warrington is under an amber Met Office warning for snow and ice until 12 pm today, Sunday, January 5.
The Met Office said: “It is safer not to drive in these conditions, but if you need to make an essential journey, consider alternative forms of transport to keep you and others safe.
“If you must drive, do this more safely by: using dipped headlights; accelerating gently, using low revs and changing gears as quickly as possible; starting in second gear to help with wheel slip.”
Other advice includes maintaining a safe and steady speed and increasing distance from other vehicles.
If your vehicle does skid, steer into it.
Residents can prevent frozen pipes by opening kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing.
And people are urged to check on elderly and vulnerable people in the cold.
