Through traffic to be banned outside school to improve highway safety

THROUGH traffic is set to be banned outside St Philip School at Westbrook, Warrington, to improve highway safety.

The measures are part of the ongoing focus on improving safety within the immediate vicinity of St. Philip Westbrook C of E Primary School it is deemed necessary in conjunction with the school to introduce a School Street.
The measures are to remove through traffic past St Philip school during the school drop off and pick up.

There will be a prohibition of vehicles, Monday-Friday between 8:30 AM TO 8:55 AM AND 2:55 PM T0 3:30 PM.
Westbrook Centre (East-West Section) – From its junction with Westbrook Crescent for an approximate distance of 120 metres in an easterly direction for vehicles travelling in only an easterly direction.
Westbrook Centre (East-West Section) – From a point approximately 120 metres north east of its junction with Westbrook Crescent to its junction with Westbrook Centre (North/South Section).

Warrington Borough Council proposes to make an Order under Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers. The effect of the Order will be to introduce a Prohibition of Motor Vehicles on Monday to Friday between 8:30am to 8:55am and 2:55pm to 3:30pm (term time only) on the roads specified in the Schedule to this Notice, Pedal Cycles and Invalid Carriages will be permitted.

All representations both in support or objecting to the proposals must be in writing either by post or delivered by hand to Legal Services, East Annexe, Town Hall, Sankey Street, Warrington, WA1 1UH or emailed with full contact details to [email protected] by 18th April 2024 and all objections must specify the grounds on which they are made. Please note that all representations received may be considered in public by the Council and that the substance of any representation together with the name and address of the person making it could become available for public inspection.

  1. The order does not only ban through traffic, it bans all motor vehicles. Cars parked outside the time of the order are also banned if they remain after the order comes into force.

    It says it is only during term time but the schools in Westbrook do not all have the same term dates and you have to look at the internet to see what they are. This is unworkable nonsense from a Council that is utterly useless in almost every way.

    This will make parking at the Westbrook Centre worse than ever and there are insufficient spaces open as it is, particularly during December.
