Warrington Rylands extend unbeaten run of away games

THE much-anticipated clash between promotion-chasing Hyde United and Warrington Rylands ended with a goalless draw at The Project Solar Stadium as The Blues continued their unbeaten run of away games this season.

When second in the league travel to third in the league it’s fair to say the prospect of a good game is anticipated but this match didn’t live up to expectations. A strong, swirling wind with intermittent rain didn’t help the smooth flow of the match on Hyde’s artificial pitch but for any neutral observers on Non-League day, it was an exciting game moving from end to end.

Disappointingly there were not many saves necessary from either keeper. Early in the game the host goalkeeper Jordan Eastham’s kick went directly to Momodou Touray but the resultant run at goal was quickly halted by three Hyde defenders and the shot went wide.

Fifteen minutes later Hyde put the ball in the net but the goal was disallowed. Shortly after a Ryland’s cross was met by Ben Hough whose effort flew over the bar.

The second half was more interesting as each side took turns to control the match. Djavan Pedro was brought down when through to goal but the referee stood firm and play continued. Both teams battled for the elusive winner. Warrington Rylands had three shots in succession but each missed the target.

With minutes left on the clock a Hyde breakaway down the right wing gave Luke Pilling his first real taste of action but he was up to the task. His rebounded save went straight to a Hyde player whose shot was cleared off the line by a strong Ryland’s defence.

The goalless result means that Warrington Rylands remain in second place but Hyde United drop to fourth as the promotion battle hots up. Marine moved up into third place beating Lancaster at The Giant Axe.
