THE men’s mental health support charity Andy’s Man Club held its first session in Warrington on Monday night.

Andy’s Man Club was established in 2016 and aims to provide men with a safe space where they feel comfortable to talk and open up about their experiences in a room free of judgement.

Following numerous requests to establish a club in Warrington, the new group will be hosted at Cantilever Park, home of Warrington Town FC, every Monday from 7pm.

There are now more than 160 Andy’s Man Club support groups nationwide, with more than 4,300 men attending them this week alone.

A total of 33 people, including the two facilitators, turned up for the first Warrington session, with organisers said to be overwhelmed by the turnout.

One attendee said: “It was absolutely fantastic. There were 31 amazing, brave men that walked in to that room. It’s the hardest thing you can do to walk in to a room where you don’t know anyone and you’re nervous.

“They sat down and were vulnerable in front of each person and I’m thankful I got to be a part of that.

“Based on that alone, the number of people who turned up for the first one, it shows how important and needed it is not just in Warrington but throughout the UK.

“That’s why Andy’s Man Club is such a vital, fantastic charity that’s spreading out across the UK and helping men to talk and have a place that they can come and be part of a brotherhood and a club. I just want to encourage it.

“If you know someone who might want to go, or if you’re struggling yourself, don’t suffer in silence. Please come along, it’s free, you can have a brew and biccies, have a good chat and you don’t have to say anything if you don’t want, but I’m promising you now it will change your life.”
