Improvement plans for Pyramid Arts Centre

0

PLANS have been put forward for a number of interior and exterior alterations at Warrington’s Pyramid Arts Centre – the Grade 2 Listed former county court building in the town centre.

Internal alterations will include a new café/bar, reorientation of the Studio Theatre to improve sight-lines and acoustics and additional toilets – to provide 19 instead of the existing nine.
Externally, it is proposed to replace cladding and flat roofs to improve thermal performance and fix leaks and installation of new, steel double doors on the Museum Street frontage to allow for improved loading/unloading facilities.
Pyramid is owned by the borough council but leased to Culture Warrington.
The original court building dates back more than 100 years but was converted to an arts centre in 1998-2002 with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The building is in the Palmyra Square Conservation Area.
Warrington Borough Council planners have been told the proposed works will have a minimal impact on the original features of the Listed building and would be reversible without incurring damage to the original features of the building.
